Abstract

Network modeling is a set of techniques for extracting various patterns of interestfrom graphs. They can be used in many real-life analytic fields, such as sales andmarketing, journal reports, government and law enforcement, social networking sites, and technical research. The papers in this survey contribute to advertising by userinterest, detecting organizations in social networks, groups of shared political policies, etc. This survey collects a number of network modeling papers from several researchfields: statistics, data mining, machine learning, and signal processing, and threeother related fields. We also summarize the papers based on the taxonomy andprovide examples based on their tasks. We expect that this survey will be usedto introduce complex network modeling techniques to the communities that are notfamiliar with network modeling techniques, and provide quick reference to identifysuitable methods to different analysis tasks.
