Abstract
Within libraries, there is a growing recognition that cataloging practices can involve outdated, offensive content description and subject terminology. However, efforts to remediate metadata to make it more representative have only infrequently been informed by direct feedback from users from affected communities. This paper will describe a research study carried out by a large public research institution to gather feedback from users on descriptive language they feel is respectful and representative of their identities. Presented at ACRL 2025.
