Abstract
Learn how librarians at a large, public university took a holistic approach to recognizing and responding to students' mental health needs and the burnout crisis (both enhanced by the COVID-19 pandemic and persistent racism) by building a special lending collection of self-care devices and books. Rooted in the ideas of poet, feminist, and librarian, Audre Lorde, and informed by their background in student engagement, diversity, equity, and inclusion work and trauma-informed librarianship, this collection supports student self-care at their individual point of need. Beyond sharing the story of this collection, its development and implementation, the presenters will speak to the value of incorporating resources, programs, and spaces that support student wellbeing, mental health, and coping.
