Blockchain has been gaining traction in many industries due to its relative advantage. While many industries see blockchain as a game-changing technology, its potential in healthcare is especially promising. Despite the growing interest in blockchain technology within the healthcare industry, the adoption of the technology in this sector has been slow. An empirical study combining the diffusion of innovation model (Rogers, 1983) and the technology-organization-environment model (Tornatzky and Fleishcher, 1990) is proposed to investigate the relatively low rate of the technology’s adoption in healthcare. This study considers how innovation (relative advantage, technology complexity), technology (technology interoperability), organization (readiness of the organization, top management support), and environment (competitive pressure and government regulatory support) affect blockchain adoption intention in the healthcare industry. A total of 170 valid questionnaires were collected and analyzed using the PLS-SEM technique with SmartPLS software. The results show a significant impact of top management support, organizational readiness, and competitive pressure on blockchain technology adoption intention in the healthcare industry. This study contributes to the growing body of knowledge on blockchain adoption in healthcare by providing a comprehensive analysis of the factors influencing the adoption intention of this technology.
