Abstract

The work presented in this thesis concerns designing and implementation of an open source, reconfigurable power inverter control with embedded security. A digital controller has been designed on field programmable gate array (FPGA) to generate the SPWM trigger pulses for an IGBT using hardware description language (VHDL). Trigger requirements are obtained for single-phase and three phase power inverters with progressively enhancing reliability and performance of digital controllers. The digital control methods are undeniably more advanced over their analog counter parts. There are numerous benefits of digitial controllers, for example, reconfigurability, power saving options, less sensitive to temperature changes and less passive components. The work we have done emphasizes on reconfigurability of the SPWM characteristics such as modulation index, modulating signal frequency, carrier frequency and dead time. The resulting VHDL code is simulated first using Vivado software of Xilinx. Simulation and experimental results on Xilinx Zynq Ultrascale+ FPGA with Atlas Blackwing carrier and Iveia development board are presented to verify the performance and working of this module. Peripheral input-output and FPGA interfacing through Xilinx Zynq ultra-scale+ has been developed to generate sinusoidal pulse width modulation PWM trigger signal for the power inverter. Various triggering pulses are observed on Tektronix Mixed Signal Oscilloscope (MSO) to test the trigger circuit qualitatively. The operation of the proposed system has been found satisfactory.Embedded security is later coordinated into the module as the malevolent correspondence based assaults against the smart grid network are progressively turning into a danger to the national power grid security .The security part of the controller is executed utilizing TPM(Trusted Platform Module) and incorporated with the SPWM module. Believed Platform Module is an equipment module. It offers cryptographic capacities.
