SALLY JO MESIBOV. "I Received an Inward Showing of Truth." (Under the direction of DR. WILLIAM SHERMAN) This paper analyzes the changes in language between two texts, written by Julian of Norwich, that reportedly describe the same religious vision occurring in the fourteenth century. My analysis demonstrates that the changes in language between the two texts, especially corporeal language, reveal a shift in Julian of Norwich’s represented perceptions and self-presentation through her expanded focus on themes of suffering, mercy, inwardness, and enclosure.
