Students with disabilities attending UNC Charlotte are protected by laws that ensure equal access to education. The Library partners with the Office of Disability Services to ensure that all UNC Charlotte students have access to the tools, reasonable accommodation, and support services to participate fully in their academic endeavors.

Getting around the Library

Atkins Library has several elevators, each of which serve different areas of the library. One elevator, located in close proximity to the Library Atrium, serves the ground floor through the third floor of the library, which are the floors where the majority of student activity takes place. This elevator easily accommodates wheelchairs of all sizes.

The two tower elevators, part of the original library tower constructed in the 1960s, are smaller and provide service from the ground floor through the tenth floor. They do not easily accommodate the average size wheelchairs but can be used by smaller mobility devices.

The library offers a retrieval service for students, faculty and staff which provides access to all library materials without having to physically access the floor where the material is located.

Hours of Service

During the fall and spring semester the Library is open 24/5 with a 24/7 schedule during exams. Hours will fluctuate during breaks and summer session. Check the library's calendar for current hours.

The Research Help desk, located on the main floor of the library, is staffed between 10 AM - 7 PM Monday through Thursday and 10 AM - 4 PM on Friday during the fall and spring semesters. On weekends, students can get help at the circulation desk on the main floor of the library near the entrance. Hours will fluctuate during breaks and summer sessions. Check the Research Help desk calendar for current hours.
